When connecting the finger-clip oximeter to a body part, a small beam of light passes through the blood and measures the oxygen level.

Continuous monitoring at the same site should not exceed 4 hours. The monitoring site should be changed every 1-2 hours.

They mainly consist of light-emitting diodes, photodetectors, cables, sponge/non-woven fabric/foam, and connectors.
